lamentations

Over the past couple of weeks, God’s really been hitting at the core of what drives me, where I run to gain satisfaction, attention, or affirmation- places that are not Him. In a lot of my attitudes, actions, decisions, and desires, He shown me my overwhelming selfishness- and what that has shown me more than anything is that I hate sin. I hate that I love it. I hate that I daily live out Proverbs 26:11. I hate that I run to it, knowing it leaves me empty. But I’m so thankful it leaves me empty, I’m thankful Jesus allows nothing else to fill me beside Himself- because it teaches me constantly that I was created to know and glorify Him, and only in fulfilling that purpose will I ever be satisfied.

So this is becoming my prayer:
God, although I cling so tightly and am deceived so greatly by my own flesh, work my sin out of me, replacing it with Yourself. You are the Giver of every good thing, the Creator of my heart, the ultimate Lover of my soul. Your plan is perfect and is lacking in nothing; my plans are full of compromise and lies. Don’t let me forget the feeling that comes when I settle for cheap imitations of the contentment found only in Jesus Christ, filled with grace and love. Teach me that the wages of sin is death, separation from you; but Your gift is eternal life in Christ- a life that is abundantly good, because You are able to do far more than we ask or imagine. Whisper the Gospel over and over to my soul; tenderize my heart and train it only to run to You.

judge me if you must,

but I seriously, seriously want this tattoo.

"Tetelestai doesn’t translate simply, we have to make a phrase out of it - "It is finished." But still some of its power is lost in the translation. In the Greek it implies that something has come to an end, it has been completed, perfected, accomplished in the full and that something has consequences that will endure on and on. Tetelestai. The most powerful single word of all of Jesus ministry. It was also his last word. It was the word that turned this apparent tragedy into a scene of Victory that shook the earth, split rocks, changed history, raised saints from the dead and tore away the temple curtain that kept people out of the Holy of Holies. Tetelestai- the most powerful word in history. Even more powerful than the words of creation in Genesis chapter 1 where God spoke and the universe came into existence. This word could not simply be spoken. The son of God had to die to speak it."
-Rev. Bill Versteeg

What a legit reminder and conversation starter.

where's that tiger?

Recently, I stumbled upon a facebook page for the Clemson Tiger. I tried adding him, and it said "Sorry, this user already has too many friend requests." Seriously, it's not like Clemson football's keeping him that busy. Let's just say that I feel my $20K a year should buy me friendship with this cat.. no pun intended.

okay, so maybe it was.

it's the simple things

These two things have made my life better recently.

50 degrees in Clemson

I'm a seasonal snob. I tend to appreciate fall and spring on a completely different level than summer or winter. Maybe that's normal, or it's just because I'm an in-between kind of person. I have a hard time making decisions and choosing between extremes, so balance is good for me- although I never really get there, but I digress.

As the weather cools down in Clemson and I pack up my Nike shorts and Rainbows, I reach a borderline depression stage. RIP warm weather and slack clothes. However, today, on my usual fast-paced walk to Brackett because I'm always late, I found a new appreciation for this season of winter. Of course, there are many great things that come with cold weather, but if nothing else, winter brings us more clothes. Yes, I mean, no more girls walking around in no clothes. I'm not trying to say I'm the most modest girl on the planet, but some people just really push this "no dress code" thing. But now, they can't- they'd freeze. It's beautiful, really.

So, all I really want to say is, here's to winter and the modesty it brings.

so long

Try to hold your excitement, but we're about to try something new.

PART 1: I wrote this on 10/28/10, and never finished, but I don't feel like wasting all the time and energy it took to write it by not posting.
Hey guys. Confession: I wish I was better at blogging. With that out of the way, let me tell you what's been consuming my thoughts for the past few days. A couple of weeks ago, randomly at Crosspoint Fall Getaway, a girl I barely knew told me about a trip to India over Christmas. Katelyn from BCM is leading a group to meet up with some missionaries to help their students put on a winter conference for local believers. I'm a little fuzzy on all those details, but I talked to Katelyn multiple times and prayed and thought about it, and thought some more, and confused myself, and Peyton and other people talked some sense into me, and prayed about it more. ps, I overanalyze everything. I talked to my parents a lot about it, and obviously, they have a hard time letting their 18 year-old American daughter go to a foreign country with only about a seven-week notice, missing the holidays, and finding someway to meet that $2800 price tag. But they're getting there.

I won't take you through the crash course of logic that's been going through my head- concerned with how I would raise that amount of money in such a short time, but also remembering that money is no big deal to the God who created everything we see; trying to hear my parents out but also trying to not let anything be of greater value than God's call; freaking out because I'm the most inconsistent person on the planet, but remembering that God can use anyone for His glory and any situation to teach me- but I will say that if I go to India or not, God's definitely used this situation already in my life.

First, it's been really cool to realize that I want to go. Not just to India, but go. I don't know what that'll look like for my life, but especially since Ecuador, I've just been captivated by international missions. God certainly calls and commands every believer to go, and that looks different for different people (so thankful for our anti-cookie cutter God!), but I feel like He puts desires in our hearts for the type of ministry He's calling us to. What I'm trying to say is that so often, I recognize what I want to do, but I dismiss that as a reason for actually doing, for fear of basing a decision on my flippant emotions. But now I'm seeing that I sometimes make decisions more complicated than they should be because I ignore that God can use our heart's desires to push us in the way He wants to use us for His glory.

Second, it's been awesome to see the way God works in so many ways surrounding a decision. It's not like He's just using this situation to teach me- He's using it to teach my parents, my friends, and other people around me. My parents' faith is certainly growing, and it's so encouraging to hear them say things like "As your parents, the only thing we want to say is 'no'. But, recognizing that you belong to God first, who are we to limit how He wants to use you?" and "We know that the center of God's will is the safest place for you to be, even if that's halfway around the world." Also, just like in Ecuador, it's growing the faith of the people around me, who may sacrificing money to support me.

And last (for today), I want to recognize that there is faith to say 'yes' but there is faith to accept 'no's as well. I might not be able to go to India. I might not have the money, my parents might ultimately not feel comfortable letting me go, or some other reason might come up. Since God is sovereign, I trust that wherever I am for Christmas, there are reasons- there are opportunities- there will be lessons that conform me to the image of Christ.

PART 2: Now, about a week later, I have an update.
I'M GOING TO INDIA!! God is faithful. My parents felt a lot better once they got some more information and have agreed to let me go. I'm in the beginning phases of fundraising- this also means that if you've played a big role in my life someway, you'll probably be getting a support letter in the mail sometime soon. love ya mean it! I'll keep you guys posted on what God teaches me as I prepare with the team. Please, please keep us in your prayers!

Also, I hate to plug fundraising into my blog, but-

I'm selling these shirts to raise money. $10 short-sleeve. $15 long-sleeve.
Basically, I get money to go to India. You get a t-shirt. Win, win. But, if you're not easily convinced:
1) It's getting closer to winter, and no one has enough long-sleeve t-shirts. You might think you'll be wearing cute clothes all winter, but you know during exams, you'll want a warm, comfy t-shirt. Why not buy one for $15, instead of $20 most other places? Irresistible.
2) Christmas is coming soon.. cheap and early gift shopping. All I'm saying.
3) The shirts are dark green. Always a good color for hunting season.
4) It took me so long to fit that verse into the outline of India. Help me know it wasn't a waste of my time.
5) Have a hard time evangelizing? Wear the shirt. Random guy thinks "this Brennan kid is crazy for going to India over Christmas" and asks you about it. Uhh, plug for Jesus!
6) I already have a lot of people signed up to order; go with the flo, right? (kidding..)

But for real, just consider how you could support our team- if that's through prayer, buying a t-shirt, or donating any amount of money. God is always faithful to provide for us, so pray about if God is calling you to be a part of this trip through giving. If not, that's okay. Thanks!

two blogs in two days- I know, crazy.

Here are some random bits of truth that I've come across in, say, the past half hour. I hope they encourage you!

"Yes, I am thankful for gorgeous flowers, sweet aromas, and the delicate taste of well-prepared food. I am thankful for the many people in my life, for sunsets and rivers, for mountains and animals. And I am thankful for how each of these things in some way reflects the glory of God. But most of all I am thankful that God has broken the power of these things over me and is teaching me not to look to them for the satisfaction of my soul." - Paul David Tripp

"In the heart of every young woman lies the intrinsic desire to be found beautiful. But when we come to Jesus, we exchange our desires to be noticed and appreciated for the desire that He and He alone would shine gloriously through our beings. Maybe no one will ever notice us. But that makes no difference as long as they notice Him shining through us. We can waste precious time and energy searching for something of worth and value in our own souls. Or we can join the ranks of historical set-apart women and declare, "less of me and more of Him!" That is when our souls will sparkle with the spectacular beauty of Jesus Christ." - Leslie Ludy: Set-Apart Femininity

O Lord, help me never to expect any happiness from the world, but only in thee. Let me not think that I shall be more happy by living to myself, for I can only be happy if employed for thee, and if I desire to live in this world only to do and suffer what thou dost allot me. Teach me that if I do not live a life that satisfies thee, I shall not live a life that will satisfy myself. Help me to desire the spirit and temper of angels who willingly come down to this lower world to perform thy will, though their desires are heavenly, and not set in the least upon earthy things; then I shall be of that temper I ought to have. Help me not to think of living to thee in my own strength, but always to look to and rely on thee for assistance. Teach me that there is no greater truth than this, that I can do nothing of myself. Lord, this is the life that no unconverted man can live, yet it is an end that every godly soul presses after; let it be then my concern to devote myself and all to thee. Make me more fruitful and more spiritual, for barrenness is my daily affliction and load. How precious is time, and how painful to see it fly with little done to good purpose! I need thy help: O may my soul sensibly depend upon thee for all sanctification, and every accomplishment of thy purposes, for me, for the world, and for thy kingdom. -Valley of Vision

I pray you pray we pray

a little Empire State shoutout.

I should really get better about blogging. God's been teaching me a lot. Sorry for not sharing.
But for tonight, I'm just throwing out some prayer requests about some opportunities coming up.
1. I have the chance to be a huddle leader at the middle school FCA retreat, as well as the lake weekend for the girls at FBC Camden, during November 12-14. Each would be awesome, but it's just a decision I need to make.
2. Along the same lines, but a little bigger, I have to decide what to do over Christmas break. I really want to visit my bff Julie in Texas! but I've also been given the opportunity to go to India from December 21-January 7. It'd be a pretty good bit of money, but I'd be going with about four other girls from around Clemson to partner with some college-aged believers there hosting a conference. We would most likely work with younger kids, too- such a cool opportunity!
3. Summer planning is already here. I'm considering applying to be on Summer Staff with World Changers as a missions communications specialist, but Crosspoint has a SummerLink which would be awesome too.
4. I'm in the process of becoming a member at Crosspoint (ps, this is a super solid church in Clemson I've been going to).

Thanks; love y'all mean it.

a few tips from an overwhelmed college freshman

Well, there are SO many things that I want to blog about- need to blog about- so I don't forget, and so I can share with all my faithful followers. But, seeing that I have an awesome psych test tomorrow and I've already delayed my study time by 7 hours, it'll have to be condensed into a few suggestions. That's probably better anyway.

1. Read Ephesians. It'll rock your world.
2. Study the trinity. emphasis area: leadership and submission are equally divine (Ephesians 5:22-33).
3. Listen to Midtown's sermon on dating. Dustin Willis doesn't play around, and he's pretty funny, too.
4. Get to know people, even if they're different. That's okay. Appreciate what makes them different, try to understand it, don't try to change it.
5. Tetelestai. I want this tattoo so badly. Any suggestions on non-sketchy/skanky places to get it, holla at me. But while you're thinking of where to tell me to get it, look up what it means.
6. If you're a senior in high school, come to Clemson.
7. And to all you haters that said Peyton and I shouldn't room together, I just want to say that I love this girl, and so far so good. love ya mean it, rooms.

Look out for the follow-up for these. Ha, like I ever actually blog.

1 Corinthians 15:56-57
"The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Tonight

>has been the night unlike any other night at Clemson. A generic overview of how things are going at school will come soon (since you're dying to know, I'm sure), but for now, I just want to say the college will probably be a season of learning to trust. Before I came, I had doubts about if this was where God wanted me- and I realized it was. It's not a question of happiness or certainty that this is my new home.. I love it here, really.

But what I've seen over the past few days is a discontent in my heart, a hardness towards my Savior, a lack of trust in His goodness and grace. Really, I've seen that over the past months, but I guess it's seemed to surface more with the intensity of changing surroundings. It's been the weirdest time of my life. My heart runs after things that don't satisfy and desires what may be good at a time but what God has not initiated now.

I pray that God would use all of my empty longings to thrust me into dependence on Him, acknowledging my powerlessness, weakness, and ignorance, and recognizing His Lordship, sufficiency, and consistency; that I would look at the cross and be satisfied; that there, my pride, plans, and love of sin would fall seeing the surpassing greatness of God's alternative.

I came across this quote tonight- certainly no coincidence:
"God never witholds from His child that which His love and wisdom call good. God's refusals are always merciful- "severe mercies" at times but mercies all the same. God never denies us our hearts desire except to give us something better." -Elisabeth Elliot

and I'm reminded of the verse inside my purity ring:
"Wait for the Lord. Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."
-Psalm 27:14

I know this has been weird, vulnerable, and kind of vague, but if you happen to read this, say a prayer- for me and for yourself, to desire God more than what we desire at the time, to surround ourselves with His truth, and rest knowing that we can trust the God who created everything we see and don't see.

making up for lost time

I know, two blogs in one night is a little crazy, but I might as well fill you in about Ecuador too!

Basically, the 8 members from FBC Camden met up with about 90 students 4,000 miles away in Ecuador’s capital to work in different areas doing VBSs, sports camps, conversational English, etc. In the airport, we met up with a super sweet girl named Sarah who was going to IWC by herself- instant adoption. Love ya, mean it Esther (like she reads this). Anyway, we stayed in a seminary and had everything we needed.

the team.

It was so cool working with the missionaries, translators, believers, participants, and children there. First, it was so incredible to see the kids run up to you and just love you, because they knew you were there to love them. Praise the Lord. Second, I absolutely loved my translator. Her name was Katherine; she’s 27 and a believer. We immediately hit it off, and it was such a blessing to work with her. Along the same lines, I was so encouraged by the pastor (and his family) of our house church. And last, the missionaries there were great to talk to, giving me a new perspective and desire for missions.

the kids at VBS.

Now to actual points. Through hearing the pastor’s testimony and talking to my translator, one thing I saw was their understanding of the importance/vitality of the Gospel. It is central. It is what unifies believers, brings understanding, and saves us. I saw their desire for others to know the hope that they have come to know, and I truly believe their simplicity and focus comes directly from their lack of obsession with materialistic or theological pursuits. Each of those has their place, but that place is only in support, not equality, of the Gospel. Praise God for teaching me through their examples.

sharing salvation bracelets at the block party.

Along the same lines, one day, Katherine and I decided to pray over a very lost boy we had just talked to. She prayed in Spanish; I did not understand. I prayed in English; she did. She's awesome. Anyway, another night in worship, one of the translators led worship and sang the last verse of a song in Spanish. These two small incidents reminded me of how people say that God is "Lord of the nations" and well, He is. However simple this may be, I tend to only think of God in English, and so this blew my mind. God can understand- and is bigger than- any language or any culture. He is so much bigger than the little American corner of the world that we call home. He is Lord of the nations, of all creation..

the pastor's kids.

And lastly, how productive it was to talk to some of the missionaries and learn about God's call on their lives, and how great it was to be exposed to international missions, finally. Let me just say that I love it. There is no doubt in my mind now that my job will be missions-related (yet another thing I could blog about). I learned about so many missions opportunities and was just extremely encouraged by people who had given their lives to share the Gospel. At least in Ecuador, people respected or were interested in you because you spoke English, which provided such great opportunities. I can't wait to continue seeing other cultures and how God is working in them. And if you think about it, pray for me as I seek what God has for me in this "mission-related" business.

the (fake) Equator on tourism day.

I feel like there are so many other things to convey, but God worked, and I'm ready to go back. I'll leave you with two beautiful pictures I ganked from a journeyman that's living in Ecuador.. Vaya con Dios.

Ephesians 2:4-5
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ- by grace you have been saved.

how's your summer going?

It is unexpectedly beautiful. Seriously, going into this summer, I knew I'd be working at United Way, spending a low-key week at the lake with some friends, going to World Changers in Nashville and Ecuador, and orientation. Certainly some exciting things, but I have more free time this summer than usual, and I wasn't expecting much overall. However, it's been incredible- making money, having some new experiences, and getting to catch up with so many people and develop relationships. the perfect summer, for me.

Since I've neglected my blog so well, I have so many things to share, so buckle up. Actually, you can do whatever you want. If anyone's actually reading this, that's a big enough deal.

WEEK ONE: Senior trip at the lake with some friends, including my awesome roommate from Texas last year, Julie Hagerup! Let's just say it was awesome to be with everyone, find some closure for the high school era, and just relax for the first time in a while. Oh, and learn to wakeboard (sort of). that's what's up. A special thanks to the Gills for letting us use their home!

WEEK TWO: World Changers Nashville! WC is like home to me (that's why I'm halfway done with my Summer Staff application for next year, and it's July). This year was very different in that I didn't really met a ton of great friends, but I did get closer to a few people from my church, and met a couple of legitimate, God-seeking friends from around the Southeast.

WEEK THREE: Oh, orientation. I have decided I love Clemson, and I hate their programs. I enjoyed this two-day extravaganza with Peyton and Thad, but all the information and sheep-hearding was a little too much for me. Sidenote, I learned how quickly I can write people off, judge them, or think I'm too cool for someone- that's funny in itself. But seriously, upon meeting some different people at orientation- people who weren't really accepted by the other students there- I went along with the existing opinion that they were too into video games, or academics, or whatever it may be. As if Jesus would have that attitude. I guess there are more details behind this realization, but I'm glad God started showing me this attitude before I even move into Clemson, so hopefully I'll keep learning how to love God and love people. more to come on this renewing of my mind.

WEEK FOUR-FIVE: Working at United Way. Not much to say other than I love this job. Since I'm going into non-profit leadership, it's been good to see how things work, as well as save up some money!

WEEK SIX: International World Changers to Quito, Ecuador! I think I'm going to have to post a separate blog about this. Stay tuned.

WEEK SEVEN-PRESENT: Back to work at United Way. My oldest brother, Gregg, is getting married next weekend (on Lane's birthday). Lane proposed to Jessica last week. Thad and I are taking Peyton on a surprise trip this weekend for her birthday! and I only have two weeks left at the Way. Also, 23 days til we move into Clemson.. but who's counting.

There's my life, minus a lot of details and a few more realizations.. but I'll save that for a few months down the road when I actually decide to blog again.

6.05.2010

Well, I've basically lost any dedication, desire, or talent for blogging. Nevertheless, I'll do some updating.

1. I graduated! and did I cry? no. This is getting pretty ridiculous, but at least I did tear up during my speech and during the alma mater. Love ya, Camden High.
2. Speaking of Camden High, I might as well post this link, in case you've somehow missed it. (http://www.gatorade.com/default.aspx?mobilelockerroom%3Fs=mobile-locker-room&es=camden-hs#mobilelockerroom?s=mobile-locker-room&es=camden-hs) Camden High was selected as one of only five schools in the nation for testing a new Gatorade product, and so our video is on the website. I got chills watching the film of Kelvin Grant returning the kickoff in the last few seconds of the 2001 playoff game against Wilson. I will never forget that moment.
3. Speaking of crying (refer to #1), I did tear up significantly when Julie left yesterday! Let me back up. My best friend/roommate from Arlington last summer came to visit for a week and a half! It was a blast- just like old times minus the Mission. We went to Charleston for a day, had some graduation fun, then headed up to the lake for some relaxation, food, games, and lake festivities. Not to mention catching up and sharing our lives of the past year. She's pretty mad legit real cool, man.
4. I discovered Plato's Closet. Well, I finally went there. It has changed my life! I can't comprehend paying full price for clothing now.
5. I started working at United Way! I love it, especially now that I have permission to call Donny without the Mr. in front.
6. Lastly, WORLD CHANGERS is basically tomorrow. too amp.

4.05.2010

lo siento

for neglecting my blog. Like Ruiz, I apologize to all my adoring fans.

I know I always have numbered/bulleted posts, and I'm sure that gets boring, but I feel that's the most effective way to catch you up on my life (which I know y'all are so interested in). So, let's recap.

★ It's spring break, and that's so beautiful.
★ Thad introduced me to this restaurant in Camden called Maddison's. The food's pretty delectable, and the owners are such nice people; who knew?!
★ Speaking of Thad, our families are going to Edisto this week. holla for warm weather, relaxation, and some great food, I'm sure!
★ But before that, I'm going with Meredith to Clemson for an overnight :) It's so good visiting now, knowing that I'll be there next year. It basically adds a whole new dimension. Plus, we get to go to RUF Tuesday night! I'm pretty amp.
★ Last night, my dad said "Interrupting someone's sneeze should be punishable by death." and it basically made my lyfe.
★ I've started saying "lol" sarcastically instead of laughing, but I'm kind of concerned because it's becoming a habit, and that's not okay.
★ Bekah Austin recruited (you can hardly call it recruiting, because I'm no good) me for her intramural frisbee team next year!
★ Pandora's being nice to me today.
★ Less than a month til AP exams!! That's kind of stressful, but that means it'll over be over soon. PTL.
★ Mrs. Williams used my paper as an example the other day! This sounds like no big deal, but seriously, I've never been more proud of any piece of school work in my life.
★ I took all that random Clemson mail, cut out the good parts, and made some sweet collages for Peyton and I. how lame of me.
★ In two weeks-ish, there's a concert in Columbia for $10. It's basically like Winterjam all over again, but with better people, and that's ridiculously exciting. and it's Kayla birthday!
★ oh yeah!! Julie's officially coming to South Carolina this summer! I am slightly concerned that she and Luke might end up being better friends than we are, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.
★ There was a Clemson reception for accepted students last week in Columbia, and I got a free t-shirt. always exciting.
★ Mrs. Twitty let us work in partners for our last ever AP Cal test, and Lesley and I rocked it.
★ In my last post, I mentioned that crazy person on Ebay that outbid me for Wallabees- well, I found another pair and won within that last few seconds! It was so intense.
★ My birthday's really soon, and I can register to vote. Jim Matthew for Sheriff!
★ Easter was yesterday. Praise Jesus! We serve a risen Savior :)

This verse keeps coming up in my life.
1 Corinthians 15:56-57
"The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

highs and lows.

this title is pretty reminiscent of the good ol' days in Ashley Gardner's Bible study.

HIGHS:
1. I'm so rested because I took the day off from school yesterday. Yeah it was slack, but it was rejuvenating, and I am now more prepared to learn. judge me if you must.

2. I made As on my recent AP English tests!! I mean, she hasn't graded the papers yet, but..

3. Monster.com is coming tomorrow to give us the same speech they have every year, but that means no English manana!

4. My middle school girls' Bible study is mixing it up this week! We're starting way early for the lesson, then making posters and going to support Stuart at soccer game against LE. You go girl.

5. My mom bought more V8 Fusion. enough said.

6. D-NOW IS THIS WEEKEND! My team will dominate. holla!

7. Most importantly- God's been opening my eyes to some things lately, even though I'm super stubborn. Praise the Lord!

LOWS:
1. Someone outbid me on Ebay for $20 Wallabees. heartbreaking. (note: I wanted Wallabees before everyone else had them, because I really like wearing Meredith's.)

2. I always waste my time. I took a Calculus break at 10:15, and I've yet to return. Current time: 12:02.

3. My picture was in the Chronicle. Exciting? no, embarrassing.

4. Because of my #6 on highs- I must clean my closet. Peyton can testify.

I try to keep the highs more than the lows.

Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

A friend

accepts us as we are yet helps us to be what we should.

Lately, I've really enjoyed being with people, unexpected people, who I haven't spent time with in a while. There's just something refreshing about spending time with "old" friends (by old, I mean a few years because I'm only on a 17-year scale here.) It feels so comfortable, so familiar, so right.

At the same time, it's been great to enjoy those unconditional friendships, in which I am so blessed to know people who love and support me regardless of, well, me. Within those relationships, it's so easy to share, laugh, talk, let go; be vulnerable, open, and honest, without the concern of offending someone, or acting inappropriately, or being immature.

I feel like friendships are often so complicated by outside opinions, connections, and emotions; so much that we lose the happiness of just being together. I guess I've just been reminded of the joy that simple friendships bring- which is a very sweet, sweet thing, too easily forgotten, but so quickly welcomed back.

xoxoxo

2.28.2010

Savior, please keep saving me.

There's about fifty bajillion things I could post right now, which would get my thoughts together. For now, I'll say that I'm recently been reminded that God is faithful, and my salvation is through Jesus Christ- praise God it is not dependent on me!

Here's a song that I enjoy. Given, it's kind of cheesy at times, but I appreciate this.

Savior, please take my hand
I work so hard, I live so fast
This life begins, and then it ends
And I do the best that I can, but I don't know how long I'll last

I try to be so tough
But I'm just not strong enough
I can't do this alone, God I need You to hold on to me
I try to be good enough
But I'm nothing without Your love
Savior, please keep saving me

Savior, please help me stand
I fall so hard, I fade so fast
Will You begin right where I end
And be the God of all I am because You're all I have

Hallelujah
Everything You are to me
Is everything I'll ever need
And I am learning to believe
That I don't have to prove a thing
'Cause You're the one who's saving me.

Thanks, Josh Wilson.

I'm not sure how I feel about all this.. all of these lasts. And on top of that, I'm not even reacting how I thought I would. Being a Camden-grown, football-loving, thought-the-town-closed-on-Friday-night-because-everyone-was-at-the-game kind of girl, I definitely thought I would cry quite at bit on Senior Night at Zemp or at my last football game. Well, I didn't. As much as I'm not a fan of basketball season, I thought that maybe some tears would come my way when we lost during playoffs. Well, they didn't. And maybe- as much as I really, really am not a fan of Meet the Bulldogs- I thought that I would be a little emotional as I cheered my last at Camden High. Well, I wasn't.

Now, for any of you who know me, you know that I can cry pretty easily. It's actually pretty embarrassing sometimes. So, this lack of emotion is surprising, to say the least. and I'm kind of expecting some huge emotional breakdown at some strangely insignificant moment- which is scary. Maybe I'll be turning in a calculus assignment, and burst into tears; walking across the Commons and see Coach Ammons and start bawling; maybe sending off my last scholarship application (oh wait. those will be tears of joy). Who knows, but I feel like I understand everything that's happening but it hasn't hit me yet.

happy (yester)day!

This post is dedicated to Peyton Bullard, for receiving her acceptance letter from Clemson yesterday! I'm excited about rooming with you next year and making tons of memories that we can blog about. :)

Well, just some updates.
★ The B-dogs are still in the playoffs for basketball, aka I won't be attending Winterjam for the second year. It was pretty sweet last year, because we WON STATE, but I seem slightly less motivated this year. At the same time, though, as much as I truly want basketball season to be over, when I'm at the game, it is impossible to wish a loss upon our boys. It's such a struggle.

★ Tonight, when I was talking to Daniel Kuzbary on the phone, he said something which required a "just kidding" and after I didn't really respond, he said "I wish I was there to console you, but I just patted the phone like I would pat your head." That amused me.

★ Also, I've really been loving cookie dough lately- thanks, Bekah Austin. I know you're reading. ;) See, we have some of those ready-to-bake cookies at my house, and who wouldn't think to themselves, "Look at that conveniently bite-size portion of chocolate chip goodness?" You don't even need a knife to cut off a piece. It's practically fate, except that I don't believe in that..

★ Lastly, there's this thing called Superintendent's Student Cabinet meeting: basically class presidents from each school get together, chat, and eat pizza with Dr. Morgan. This man is such an artist with words, commonly calling a sticky situation a bear- i.e., "Morning traffic at LE is such a BEAR!"- or creating new ways to express individuality: "whatever flips your pancakes." So, basically, I come to these meetings expecting to hear a new phrase, and while it wasn't so unique, today he informed us that our next meeting was "sure to thrill us beyond all rational comprehension." I love sarcasm.

Romans 3:22-24
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

rename: Peyton's a hater.

So, Peyton and I came up to Clemson Thursday night, and we're here until Sunday. We've been apartment hopping, seeing all the highlights of the school.. by highlights, I basically mean snow. I'm kind of bummed that it snowed in Camden the one weekend I was away, but snow feels a little more special at Clemson. I made my first snowman ever last night, and he was legit. This six-foot creation was affectionately referred to as Calvin, although I'm positive he has long since joined Frosty wherever snowmen go post-freezing temperatures. Also- going back in time- Thursday night, we were able to go to FCA, which is cool but shows me that it's going to be hard to choose what to be a part of next year.

Speaking of, as ready as I am to be here next year, I don't nearly feel old enough to say that. Next year. Five months. That's really exciting, because I love Clemson, and there are so many opportunities here, but I still feel so young. That's kind of hard to explain, and I'm sure there'll be more of this dicussion to come- stay tuned! haha, sike.

In other news- Valentine's Day. Now, for someone's never had a real relationship, I can understand why a lot of single individuals hate the "holiday". but I'm really down with Valentine's Day, boyfriend or not. I would agree that it's such a Hallmark business initiative it's not even funny BUT I think it's a good excuse for couples to see each other (actually, I'm just talking about Malkoff and Bekah). and I try to let it remind me of my future husband, the man that God has created and prepared for me. I need to be reminded as often as possible to pray for him and pray for my preparation, too. There is- and always will be- so much in me in need of sanctification, and I have so much to learn before that relationship. I will bring my relationship with Christ into my relationship with him, and his to me. Well, that could be a tangent, and I don't know any answers, but it's a scary/exciting thought.

ps, I really want to paint something right now.

Psalm 27:14
Wait on the Lord. Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
